The diversity of our offering, our product development expertise, and our delivery readiness are NMC Cellfoam’s key strengths.
“The growth percentages in the defense industry are truly staggering. The playing field is constantly changing, needs are many, but we are able to respond to them,” says Kimmo Korkola, Area Sales Manager at NMC Cellfoam, Finland.
There are particularly many cooperation opportunities in the vehicle and transportation sectors. For NMC, the most important area is the manufacturing industry, but insulation, seals, dampers, and other fully customized solutions—designed according to customer requirements—are also produced directly for end products. Recognizing subcontracting chains is essential.
“Our sourcing network is extensive, and we are able to deliver exactly the products the customer requires, efficiently and in high volumes,” says Antti Filpus, Sales Manager at NMC Cellfoam, Finland.
NMC meets strict criteria
The defense industry is characterized by extremely strict quality, safety, and durability requirements for delivered products and solutions. At NMC, processes and materials are designed specifically to meet these demands.
“We are required to provide detailed safety documentation, verifications related to quality systems, and precise information on material properties. Risk assessments are demanding, and we meet them every time,” Filpus explains.
“The products must withstand specific conditions, and these requirements are addressed in close cooperation with customers,” adds Tuula Vilkka, Product Engineer at NMC Cellfoam, Finland. Our Special Product Developer Toni Nieminen fully agrees.
“This industry has very tough quality requirements. And these are exactly what we can meet—our extensive material range and production capabilities make it possible.”
Long development cycles and quick response
Projects in the defense industry typically have long development cycles. Customer relationships often form through years of collaboration and testing. At NMC, this is well understood.
“We currently have several ongoing projects that began years ago. Prototyping and testing take time, but once committed, they also materialize. It requires persistence,” Korkola emphasizes.
At the same time, defense needs may arise unexpectedly and require rapid response. NMC combines sales and engineering expertise in a way that enables fast prototype development and seamless transition to production.
“We can deliver the first prototype quickly, make the necessary adjustments, and move to production without interruptions. Delivery reliability is a core value for us, and it is also measured,” says Korkola.
As the largest Nordic operator in the field, NMC can leverage the scalability and product development capabilities of its Finnish and Swedish production facilities.
Versatility and solution-oriented approach as key strengths
NMC’s strengths include diverse material expertise, a broad subcontractor network, and the production capabilities of two factories. Geographic boundaries, manufacturing techniques, or material limitations are not obstacles but challenges to be solved.
“We look at every case also from the customer’s perspective,” Filpus emphasizes. “Our business is fundamentally based on solving our customers’ challenges.”
